Some Radeon RX 480 4GB can be unlocked to 8GB

It appears that some reference retail/e-tail Radeon RX 480 4GB graphics cards are actually shipping with 8GB of VRAM that can be unlocked via simple BIOS flash.

While we are quite sure that this is only a small batch of graphics cards, it is still a nice bonus if you manage to get additional 4GB of video memory. Both 4GB and 8GB version has the same number of memory chips but the 4GB one comes with 4Gbit chips while 8GB version uses 8Gbit chips.

AMD has already confirmed that it has sent out RX 480 8GB samples to reviewers with both 4GB and 8GB BIOS that allowed reviewers to test both versions but none guessed that these would end up in retail/e-tail as well.
