| Soltek Announces Socket 939 Motherboard Motherboard maker Soltek Computer Inc. released its latest board this week, which includes the Via K8T800 Pro chipset for AMD's new Socket 939 processors. According to Soltek, the SL-K8TPro-939 board is designed for "hardcore users". No pricing or availability was announced, however. Unfortunately, the board still exists in the twilight zone of an older chipset technology matched with a new processor. Although the Intel motherboard platforms have moved to PCI Express, the K8T800 Pro chipset still uses an AGP interface. On the flip side, users can still upgrade their systems without having to search out a new graphics card. Five PCI slots are included. The SL-K8TPro-939 supports up to 4-Gbytes of unregistered dual-channel DIMMs. Storage options include both parallel and Serial ATA interfaces, and RAID 0, 1, and 0+1 options. Eight USB 2.0 ports are built in, as well as a pair of IEEE1394 ports (one integrated, and one built in through an optional cable, Soltek said). The board also boasts a pair of S/PDIF audio jacks, one in and one out. The board uses an integrated Gigabit Ethernet chip to access the LAN. The board also includes Soltek's "Overclocking Pro" technology.
