SLI gets kicked by reader

I REALLY HATE to rain on the parade, but this SLI business is starting to really get me riled up. I am a geek as good as any. I like to buy the latest and greatest because I can, and I upgrade some component of my two gaming PCs one per semester at least. So pin on me the medal of the rich idiot funding the performance race, and I'll be happy. But this SLI business is getting on my nerves.

Let me be clear : SLI implies at the very least a specific motherboard and two identical SLI-enabled cards. This is a sight more expensive then just one video card and a new motherboard. And yet, when you read the rave reviews, it would seem that everyone has switched off the brain part that allows for critical review. Indeed, there is not one benchmark I have seen yet that gives SLI a better than 36% performance advantage over an identical single-card setup. Sorry, but double the price for less than half better performance does not constitute a bargain in my eye.
I would very much like these reviewers to wake up and use some objectivity : double the price should equate to a better performance ratio than 36%. SLI will be a meaningful option when you get AT LEAST 50% better scores IN EVERY POSSIBLE CASE. I mean hey, SLI gets a 6% difference in Half-Life 2. SIX PER CENT. This is supposed to be the jaw dropper of technology? Give me a break. I'm all for high-tech, and SLI is a notion that should have been a geek's wet dream. But it isn't, right now it's just a lame donkey that's twice as expensive as a normal one. I hope SLI will become what it should be : 50% to 80% percent better framerates. That would justify the price. But we're not yet there and until we are, only idiots qualify. I give back my medal, I'm not stupid enough.
