SiS Announces 671FX Chipset - Vista aero compatible onboard GPU

SiS earlier this week announced its SiS671FX chipset with integrated graphics for Intel platforms. The new SiS671FX supports Intel Core 2 Duo processors up to 1066 MHz front-side bus, though there's no mention of support for Intel's quad-core processors. Integrated graphics is provided by a new Mirage 3 graphics core.

The Mirage 3 graphics core features DirectX 9 support and compatible with Microsoft's upcoming Windows Vista with aero glass user interface. Also supported by the SiS671FX chipset is Smart Dynamic Clock Gating technology. Smart Dynamic Clock Gating Technology throttles the graphics engine clock according to the graphics load. SiS claims this leads to 40% lower power consumption. External PCI Express graphics cards are supported by a PCIe x16 slot as well.
