Default Samsung selects VIA's Nano for 12.1-inch netbook

Although it performs well against the Atom, Via's Nano processor hasn't exactly been stealing Intel's thunder—in fact, we've hardly seen any Nano-powered systems so far. Well, the winds may be changing for Via: the firm says Samsung has chosen the Nano for its NC20 netbook.

The NC20 looks about half-way between netbook and ultra-portable laptop, sporting a 12.1" 1280x800 LED-backlit display, a "1.3GHz+" Nano processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB hard drive, 802.11g Wi-FI, Bluetooth, a full-sized keyboard, and a six-cell battery rated for six hours of run time. The system is 1.2" thick and weighs in at 3.35 lbs, so while it's not the thinnest or lightest around, it compares well even to 10" netbooks like Asus' Eee PC 1000HE. Oh, and it comes with Windows XP Home Edition pre-installed.

I'm glad to see VIA's effort pay off.

If VIA could get the nano on a 45nm process it would end up being very competitive against atom
