| Samsung holds on to LCD TV lead The market for LCD TVs fell in the first quarter, both seasonal variations and currency fluctuations caused the 24 percent drop. In all, 51.4 million units shipped in the first quarter, according to analyst firm Trendforce. Samsung is the number one supplier followed by LG with market shares of 20.4 percent and 14.6 percent respectively. Trendforce said their positions are stable and both are set to launch large size and 4K displays. At the high end, they are hard selling TVs using quantum dot technology. Two Chinese manufacturers were in third and fourth place in the market, with 6.9 percent and 6.4 percent market share respectively, pushing former giant Sony into fifth spot. Sony has decided to concentrate on high end market and that meant it had a share of 6.6 percent. Other players in the market are shown in the following Trendforce Witsview chart. http://www.techeye.net/news/samsung-...to-lcd-tv-lead |
