Default Radeon X1600, RV530 XT goes Crossfire

ATI WAS HEAVILY criticised for its lack of a mainstream board for its dual graphic card combo known as Crossfire.
At the current generation you can only expect to have R430, Radeon X800XL or R480 based Radeon X850XT cards but no mainstream support.

You can use eight pipelines circa $150 priced Radeon X800GT but you need to match it with $300 Radeon X800XL card and that kind of doesn't make any sense.

In the next generation, ATI didn't have any choice other than to offer Crossfire at around the $200 mark. That's how Radeon X1600XL Crossfire edition will be fledged. This card will come few weeks after the launch but should be available for Santa Claus to pop something into your stockings.

The target clock speed for these cards is 600MHz core and 1400MHz memory, but they will use a 128 bit wide memory controller. Otherwise such things would end up very close to high end R520 chips.

The cards can come as DVI, DVI and VIVO but we are not sure about ATI's final decision. It seems that ATI will again control the production, so ATI is finally to get sub $199 per Crossfire, and it kind of makes sense to do that. µ
