Default Qualcomm inks a deal with Chinese Thundercomm

Bringing edge on-device AI to developers in China

Qualcomm was keen to mention the new deal with Thundercomm at its AI Day in Beijing, which will bring the new Qualcomm on-device artificial intelligence to developers in China.

The two companies have introduced the Thundercomm TurboX AI Developer Kit, which will combine a wide range of Qualcomm technologies that will help developers to bring more AI-enabled devices, at least in China.

The kit will include reference AI apps and use case models like object, scene, defect and pet detection and come in a modularized design that will allow developers and makers to extend the AI and camera capabilities.

As expected, these platforms will use Qualcomm's new AI Engine, which uses hardware and software components to accelerate on-device AI as well as its Neural Processing SDK, which will offer developers analysis, optimization, and debugging tools.

Christiano Amon, President at Qualcomm, was quite keen to note that AI, along with 5G, will drive innovation and economic benefit with both consumer and industrial devices. He also added that they are excited to see what developers in China and other parts of the world can do with this AI kit, which, according to Amon, puts the power of on-device AI into the hands of innovators.

According to details provided by the firm, the TurboX AI development kit is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2018, with further technical specifications and details coming later this year.
