It seems the new ATI HD 4770 does away with NVIDIA's complete mid-range, only the GTS 250 is able to distance itself a bit, but this at a +$30 premium. The 8800/9800GT(X) series doesn't stand a chance performance/price wise. The 9600 GT is 20% slower; ATI's own HD 4670 is 37% slower; the ATI HD 4850 is only 7% quicker;

At the $99 price point there is no better choice than this video card, pure and simple. The next step is ATI HD 4870; all the other options between $100-$150 are not worth the extra cost.
