Default OCZ Preps 750W PSU for Enthusiasts

Remember the time when nearly every manufacturer went haywire with NVIDIA’s SLI launch. NVIDIA claimed users would need far superior systems (in terms of power) to successfully run graphics cards in SLI. It was the era of high-powered power supplies, and during the same time, OCZ Technology, known for its PowerStream line of enthusiast friendly PSUs, was working on a 750W version to support NVIDIA’s theoretically demanding technology. Although OCZ never officially claimed the information, we first heard of it from a source close to OCZ who confirmed that the company should have its powerful 750W PSU ready sometime shortly after the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2005 back in January. After nearly expecting the PSU for seven months, OCZ has failed to deliver its solution.

A recent conversation with an insider brought up the topic yet again. The source reported that OCZ is still working on the PSU design, and even though it was supposedly scheduled to launch soon after CES 2005, the company canceled its plans due to market demand. After NVIDIA’s claims were more or less proven wrong by the community, OCZ decided not to introduce a high-powered version of its PSU seven months ago, which was probably for the better. If OCZ had launched it then, the price would’ve been steep enough to generate mediocre sales at best. Plus, it would mean an understood promise to develop PSUs higher than 750W or risk losing market share due to longer product cycles.

This time around, however, the insider did not reveal an approximate time of launch, but the PSU is in works at OCZ.
