NVIDIA Officially launches Geforce G80 Mid Range Series - Benchmarks Inside

2 Attachment(s)
NVIDIA today announced its latest DirectX 10 product offerings to serve the $129-$229 price points. The new GeForce 8600 GTS, 8600 GT and 8500 GT introduces technology previously exclusive to the high-end GeForce 8800-series to more affordable levels. NVIDIA’s new mainstream product lineup features Shader Model 4.0 support, GigaThread technology and NVIDIA’s Quantum Effects physics processing technology. The addition of NVIDIA’s Lumenex engine to the mainstream sector provides value-conscious buyers with 128-bit floating point HDR rendering and anti-aliasing levels of 16x.

€139 7900GS gives this highly overclocked 8600GTS quite a beating... what a disappointment, knowing that the cheapest 8600GTS is priced at €200!

€199 8600GTS: http://www.alternate.de/html/product...l?artno=JAXZH0

At this time it's very questionable why one would get those mainstream cards, though I'm stull curious what happens in Vista with pure DX10 calculations.

jmke 17th April 2007 14:08

no one knows :-/ technically we don't need DX10 at all for GFX beauty, it can all be done with DX9; it's one big marketing scheme to get us to upgrade to Vista.

Anyway, HardOCP have the 8600GTS outperforming the X1950 Pro... that is weird, and doesn't match up with the other benchmark results... :/

And by the time DX10 is widely available we will have other mainstream cards to please ourselves with. Though, might be cool to get a batch of those for overclocking competitions |D

jmke 17th April 2007 14:39

whole bunch added, Anandtech's is pretty complete. Oblivion really loves this card:)

Rutar 17th April 2007 15:11

I would take a guess and say the 8600GTS will be too slow to run DX10 games in full glory anyway.

8800GTS 320MB will be the best buy until we see the ATI cards

jmke 17th April 2007 15:18

14 May is official Launch date for ATI series, but maybe some of those 200 journalists in Tunis will leak some info, ;)

geoffrey 17th April 2007 17:14

Forceware 158 are BETA drivers, thought that with the realease we would atleast get final software.

Product Support List Windows XP 32-bit – 158.19

8300/8400 won't see light of day in retail, they are OEM only

jmke 17th April 2007 18:55

The 8600GTS delivers 40% of the performance of the 320MB 8800GTS for 70% of the price.

4 added to the list, including Tech Report! http://techreport.com/reviews/2007q2...0/index.x?pg=1

Kougar 19th April 2007 08:11

The one on Bjorn3d is mislabled in your post, they covered the XFX 8600GTS and 8600GT, both "XXX" Editions. I thought the 2,260mhz DDR3 RAM was a bit interesting, has anyone else offered cards rated at those speeds yet?

Edit: Guess I'll add that XFX has changed their North American warranty policies... they now offer A double lifetime warranty that includes overclocking and aftermarket cooler use... finally! :) They went nuts with their card's factory overclocks to boot...

jmke 19th April 2007 08:32

I only used the xxx tag in the first post, stop bothering with the rest, 99% of the XFX are the OC XXX versions; they also clock them back to reference speed in the reviews, so good:)

I know other G80 midrange OC version have similar specs, but XFX has the highest out of the box I think.

5 more added, mostly 8600GT reviews with SLI tests
