Default Nokia admits faking camera advert

Nokia appears to have scored an own goal with its advert for the Lumia 920.

One of the key features of the phone is some software which stabilises filming. If you believe the advert the phone delivers steady and clear footage thanks to something called OIS.

To be fair the advert was filmed using OIS and the Nokia phone does have it, but the footage shown in the advert was filmed on a normal camera, which is why it looked so good.

In fact you could see in the advert that it was not filmed on a Nokia because the cycling couple bike past a van where their images can be seen on large television monitoring equipment. Whoops.

Writing in its bog, Nokia apologised for a video demonstration that led viewers to believe it had been filmed with its new smartphone but was in fact made with other equipment.

To make matters worse Nokia appears to have faked still photographs that were supposed to show off the ability of the phone's camera.

"Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but we should have posted a disclaimer stating this was a representation of OIS only. This was not shot with a Lumia 920. At least, not yet," Nokia's spokesperson Heidi Lemmetyinen wrote

Of course this is being seized on by the Tame Apple Press which is desperate for Nokia to fail. If the phone does not do that well, then Nokia and Microsoft could be badly damaged.

Nokia has lost market share as consumers move to smartphones powered by Apple's iOS or Android.
