nForce 790i Ultra chipset costs US$115 If you've wondered why the nForce 790i based motherboards are so expensive, we can tell you that it's all down to the chipset, as Nvidia is kind enough to charge its so called motherboard partners the neat sum of US$115 per nForce 790i Ultra chipset. Considering that half of is a recycled northbridge from way back, which has found it's way onto the nForce 680i and 780i before the 790i, one has to wonder what there is to charge so much money for. We're also curious why there's such a huge price gap between the NSF and Ultra version, as the NSF version is a bargain in comparison at US$78 a pop. http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?op...39&Ite mid=37 |
Well, it is nVIDIA. EDIT: I am not saying it is worth it, rather that nVIDIA has always been overpriced. |
I understand ya;) |
Intel's X48 doesn't cost anywhere near that price, as I recall. I don't know the precise amount though. |

I couldn't find it, Digitimes articles that listed it required a subscription. X48-DQ6 costs $288, cheapest 790i board is $355. I imagine if the X48 cost as much (Or more) than 790i the X48 board prices would be much higher? |
