New Geforce GTX 260 Tested: 2~7% Faster The Geforce GTX 260 is set to get an upgrade, the amount of stream processors will be bumped from 192 to 216, that's a ~12% increase. The new version will not get a special product name, so it might become confusing in the near future. HKEPC had a chance to test an Inno3D GTX 260 which got a bump in SP to 216. In their overall game tests they saw a 2~7% performance increase compared to the regular version. Is it enough to outperform the Radeon HD 4870? in some of the game tests, where the GTX 260 was trailing the HD 4870 it now comes out on top; the margin is very small and it depends largely on what games you look at. retail price for HD 4870 512Mb is ~€200 retail price for GTX 260 (196SP) is ~€214 ooh so close! :D |
OMG, Nvidia, please call it the GTX265, PLEASE! |
if rumors are to be believed, it will also cost ~$50 more than GTX 260 196SP, so there goes the "ooh so close" price/performance :-/ I fully agree with the naming convention, it's already confusing enough to have 9600GSO and 8800GS which are the same product, now adding a GTX 260 with 216 SP without an indication is just as bad... unless they force all partners to make a clear distinction; like Geforce GTX 260 GOLD, XFX Geforce GTX 260 XXXXX etc being ironic :( |
Haha. They should call it the GT 260 and really confuse people 8800GT-style. |
