More Nehalem, Penryn Announced

With Nehalem Intel could conceivably go to an architecture with smaller L2 caches per core and a large L3 cache to feed all four cores on the same die.

The QX9650 features four 45nm Penryn cores running at 3.0GHz with a 1333MHz FSB, and a total of 12MB L2 cache (6MB per two cores).

Silverthorne is built on Intel's new 45nm process and according to Intel, will be able to work in devices with as little as 0.5W power consumption.

USB 3.0 will have around 10x the performance of USB 2.0 (we're assuming 10x the bandwidth?)

You can expect to see Intel SSDs sometime in 2008.

So, everybody should be saving money from now on. There is no need to buy Q6600, P35 and X38; DDR3 price will drop by then. I am excited.

Um, wow. Can't even buy desktop Penryns yet and Intel is running a completely new CSI-based platform with two completely new Nehalem CPU's onboard? Bugs on both the CPU and the system board level must have been horrendous to work around for that demo.

I am very curious to see what happens regarding the absurdly large L2 cache's... plenty of possibilities for that silicon real estate.

The SSD idea can either pwn if they throw a lot of resources at it getting it fast enough to compete with traditional HDs and back it up with volume or go wrong if t's just another SSD.
