Mobile GPU battle heating up

AMD has already announced their Mobility Radeon HD 4000 line-up last month, but availability is still scarce. The MSI GT725 notebook is already listed at Amazon (here & here) for pre-order and according to Amazon, the notebook will be in-stock in mid-March. The ASUS N81Vf sporting a Mobility 4650 (M96) outruns the competing mGPU (GT 130M) from Nvidia by 15% and is expected to be available in the first week of March. The Mobility 4670 is being touted as 2x faster than Mobility 3670 and close on the heels of the Mobility 3870, that is according to AMD's internal benchmarks.

Next month, Nvidia will be adopting the new branding (G2xx/G1xx)) across its entire line-up; desktop and notebook. The transition from the 65nm G92 to the 55nm shrink G92b will take place under this new branding. There will be two versions based on the G92b, GeForce GTX 180M & Geforce GTX 170M replacing the 9800M GTX & 9800M GT respectively. Similarly, the G94b will replace the 9800M GTS as the Geforce GTS 160M. Asus & MSI will be among the first manufacturers to incorporate these new GPUs with product announcements coming over the next few weeks.
