Microsoft delays Redstone for another year

Software king of the world Microsoft has decided to delay its next incarnation of Windows 10, Redstone, for a year.

We had expected Redstone in summer and was supposed be something between a Windows 10.1 and a Windows 11.

However Mary Jo Foley at ZDNET thinks we will have to wait until next spring because Microsoft wants to take advantage of the gear which will be shown off at CES 2017. These will be based around Intel's next-generation Kaby Lake chip range and of course AMD’s Zen. Waiting for the next generation will maximise the lifespan of the chips and the operating system.

Redstone might need some more work anyway. A recent Fast Ring version froze Surface devices and there might be more festering under the bonnet which has not been noticed yet. In the meantime Microsoft might get its act together on Windows 10 Mobile, and Continuum.Both are urgently needed and are still a bit too buggy.
