Default Micron board member quits

Micron Technology Inc. (NYSE:MU) board member who called for the semiconductor maker's Chairman Steve Appleton to be replaced last week has quit the panel, citing 'personal reasons.'
Gordon Smith served two terms on the Boise-based company's board of directors, from February 1982 through February 1984 and from September 1990 to the present.

'I've had a tremendous experience with the company during my 19 years on the board,' Smith said Wednesday. 'I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with fellow board members and the Micron team. The semiconductor business is a challenging, competitive business, and I wish the best for Micron as they continue to pursue success in this industry.'
Last week, Smith exposed a rift in the company's leadership when he said publicly that Appleton was 'not a moneymaker' and had failed to properly diversify the company.
