Overclocking “Battle of the North” at HME Utrecht 2008

Intel and ASUS in cooperation with TeliaSonera and Hardware.info will organize the first ever multi location live overclocking during DreamHack Winter 2008 and Het Multimedia Event. The matches between three national teams will be broadcasted live over the Internet. http://www.zendster.net/battleofthenorth/
We visited HME at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, as the live stream didn't quite capture the atmosphere :)

The Dutch OC team had their own booth at HME with plenty of camera's at the ready to snap the action of the Hardware.info guys.

There were two systems up and running, both using the latest Asus X58 motherboards, Core i7 965 CPUs, Corsair DDR3 Dominator kits and Geforce GTX 280 video cards. 3DMark Vantage was the benchmark, so to hit high speeds LN2 was used to cool down the overclocked gear.

As you can see in the pics above, only 1 VGA was used in this setup, with another one being prepped backstage. The second test setup was slightly more hard-core, with a triple SLI GTX 280 setup LN2 cooled.

They were hard at work from early in the morning, until late today as they had to beat Sweden who scores 36xxx in 3DMark Vantage, Finland was at 34xxx. But benching at the limit is very time consuming as you'll be faced by nice screens such as this often:

When we left HME the Dutch team was at 32xxx score, checking their blog at http://www.zendster.net/battleofthenorth/intelNL.htm it seems they were able to break 33xxx which places them right after Finland.

We thank Milan from Asus for the invite, hope to see more international OC competitions like this one in the future!
