The computer proletariat is rising up - and computing will never be the same. Tiny, sub-$500 “netbooks” like the Asus Eee are the hottest thing going in notebooks today. And some surprising things are happening. Like housewives on Linux.

Asus is forecasting worldwide shipments of 10 million 7 to 10 inch screen netbooks this year! And a billion in 2018.

"I installed Ubuntu for such an average Joe and after 10-15 minutes configuring email and showing where he should click he started using it ... and is happy for 2 months now (the pc keeps on working perfectly). This average Joe says the Linux-OS is more userfriendly then the Windows-OS."

I dunno ... I've been using openSuse for a few months now and I honestly don't think it's more easy and userfriendly as windows. Maybe it's because I want to do more than the average housewife, but I have to use the command line very often and you can't do a lot of things when you're not root (or don't have the root password, because that's what it ask very often).

I think they are referring to the niche market of Linux.Geeks disappearing if all these small devices get linux shipped in one form or other
