Default LEPA G Series 700W Power Supply Review

The LEPA G700 is a new economical branding of the venerable Enermax MODU87+ 700W that is being distributed by Enermax' new house label LEPA. "In theory" that means that the unit should perform just like the more expensive Enermax branded unit but at a lower price. However, "in theory" always has those quotes around it because often enough theory and performance don't line up. Today, the LEPA G700 really earned those quotes around "in theory."

Other than the build quality and the noise output there were no ways in which the G700 performed like the MODU87+ 700W we reviewed a year ago. The voltage regulation was worse, the DC Output Quality was worse, the efficiency was worse, the Transient Load Test results were worse, and the warranty is a mystery. However, the unit is in specification at all times so strictly speaking it passes our testing, which is not easy to do, and does so at a price of $149.99 compared to the MODU87+ 700W's $179.99. This is further complicated by the fact that there are a number of power supplies from Corsair, NZXT, Seasonic, and XFX in the same general price range which do an overall much better job than this unit. The LEPA brand is jumping into a market with very stiff competition, and from what we have seen here today, with both an Ecomaster supplied unit and one we bought from e-tail, the LEPA G700 just does not seem to measure up when it comes to value. It is not a bad power supply, in fact it is a good power supply, but it is far from a great power supply or one that we can tell you is a solid value for your dollar when looking at the others on the shelves.
