An interview with Core Duo (Yonah) Father

"David Perlmutter began the conversation, saying that he hopes today's launch will show that AMD is not the only one with interesting products. "This is one of Intel's most important product launches. A year ago we went through a massive re-organization and began dealing with complete platforms, not just the technology - we're a company that uses its own technology to offer complete products.""

>> Let's begin from the end. At the end of 2006, Microsoft is supposed to launch its next OS, Windows Vista. For the first time, we'll see an operating system that properly utilizes 64Bit, but unfortunately the Yonah processors don't support 64Bit processing. At the moment it isn't important, but why should the consumer buy a processor that is unprepared for the future, even the not-so-distant one?

David Perlmutter: "I don't accept your definition of 'unprepared'. This entire generation of Centrino received Microsoft's "Vista Ready" certification, and the 'Yonah' will fully support all of Vista's functions - even Microsoft says so."

>> You've mentioned a significant improvement of graphic performance in the new generation. What are your plans in the graphic market?

Perlmutter: "Our systems support high resolution video, 3D and HD. We're going to provide a better solution for the mainstream market. My son, for example, isn't satisfied with a mobile computer with an Intel graphic solutions, he wants the Ultra."

>> Is this a market you consider entering, high end graphics for gamers?

Perlmutter: "Not right now. Not all Centrino based systems include an Intel graphic solution, so anybody who's looking for better performance can choose an ATi or nVIDIA video card."
