The Intel Surprise : X48, a faster iteration of X38

Intel will release a special version of the X38 chipset called X48 and this new old chipset will simply be the faster iteration of X38. This chipset is described as an overclockers dream and will be shipped to selected partners only.

Tier one the usual suspect including Asus will be among first to get them. These boards will be the top of the iceberg and they will be the best of the best, and so will the chipset.

It will be interesting to get our hands on it as X38 / X48 motherboard will leave all P35 boards sitting in the dust.

According to many first testers of DFI's P35, CPU's are the limiting factor when it comes to FSB overclocking. X38 will not change that. Only evolution could be improved memory clocking, but that will only be DDR3 I think.

I read it as the chipset has some internal clocks lowered and hence will gain a few % of speed over the X38 when running the same CPU.

Jup, this is theoretically possible : if they bin the chipset the right way, they can have lower straps up to a higher FSB, which would improve performance with a few %.

higher clocks, or lower latencies :)
