Default Intel’s first Nehalem mobo is X58

Today we find out that the first Bloomfield supporting mobo will be Intel X58(with ICH10/R) coming out Q4 this year. Because Bloomfield have already got memory controller integrated, so north bridge will be simplified. The biggest point of the board will be the odd lay out, dual channel, Triple channel DD3 supporting and Dual PCIe 2.0 X16 or Quad PCIe 2.0 X8. (src: FireTech !)

Hm, so that is possibly X58? I wonder if it will keep the Skull 'n Bones at retail.

Photo of a production model dual LGA1366 socket Gigabyte 7TESN-RN server board below. Also apparently 1GHz A1 silicon Nehalem scores 3 minutes under SuperPi... better than 1.1GHz Coppermine, but worse than 1GHz Duron.

yep, the NV CEO wasn't so wrong that most people don't need more CPU power, he just forgot that Intel is now working on delivering the same power at much lower power usage

It's funny, they haven't even got P45 & X45 fully sorted and X58 is already due within 6mths or so to supersede them.

P965 has gone EOL and P35 is going EOL by years end....

The question is - how many $$s

What would you expect... No chipset that currently exists or is about to launch could possibly support Nehalem.

Only reason the chip frequency was 1GHz was because it was very early A1 silicon, first spin stuff.

I fully understand Nehalem is a new architecture requiring new chipsets.

My point was that such is the speed of progress of chipset technology that before they can even get the 'current' generation fully functional (both P45 & X48 were delayed), they are set to be superseded within a matter of months.

I definitely wouldn't want to be a motherboard manufacturer

P45, or "Eaglelake" was always scheduled to launch 2Q'08... not been delayed, yet.

As far as X48, was delayed for surplus stock of X38 to push still. In my humble opinion should never of had X48, but I've said that before in other threads.

P31, P35, X38, X48.... G31, G33, G35, G43, G45, and the list continues. Perhaps ya see why I was ranting about it a few months back, now?

Edit: Might even get worse with Nehalem... LGA1366 and LGA1160, two sockets... more excuse for extra chipsets. Or maybe not.
