Intel’s dual core sales slow, claim

TAIWAN BASED motherboard makers are hoping that a drop in prices will provide a boost to Intel’s flaccid dual-core CPU sales.
According to Digitimes, Intel is not going to reach its dual-core CPU shipment goals in the second and third quarters due to weak demand. Intel has scheduled price cuts for its Pentium 4 lineup in August, as we reported some time ago.

Chipzilla was hoping that the dual core would net it five per cent of its LGA775 socket processor shipments in the second quarter and ten per cent in the third quarter, Digitimes claims.

It quotes unnamed manufacturers as saying the weak demand could affect DRAM makers, which had expected the adoption of the Intel 945 platform to give a boost to DDR2 demand.

So far DRAM-module houses have not been that optimistic about DDR2, as systems based on DDR2-533 provide minimal performance improvements over DDR-based systems. However, they are hoping that the DDR2-667, which Intel says will be DDR2 to provide significant performance gains over DDR, could improve the DRAM makers' lot. µ
