Intel Quietly Releases New Mobile Chips
Intel Corp. has quietly added three new mobile chips into the family without releasing any statements on the matter and without including them into the official price-list. Three fresh additions to the mobile product lineup are Intel Pentium 780, Intel Pentium Low-Voltage 778 and Intel Celeron M 380, which are designed for high-end, low-power and value mobile computers respectively.
Intel Pentium M 780 processor operates at 2.26GHz at full power, contains 2MB of L2 cache and sports 533MHz processor system bus. The new microprocessor has thermal design power (TDP) of 27W, similar to predecessors and is made using 90nm process technology. The chip is optimized for operation in laptops, thus, contains special architecture enhancements in addition to Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) support. The novelty also features Execute Disable Bit (EDB) security capability. The chip is made using 90nm process technology and is already available.
Intel Pentium M Low-Voltage 778 with TDP of 10W functions at 1.60GHz, features 2MB L2 cache and uses 400MHz processor system bus. It is also built using 90nm process technology and features EIST, EDB and other technologies found in the Pentium M processors.
Intel Celeron M 380 works at 1.60GHz, contains 1MB L2 cache and utilizes 400MHz processor system bus. It is made using 90nm fabrication process and features architectural enhancements common to Intelís present mobile central process unit lineup as well as EDB capability, but unlike Pentium M products, it does not support EIST.
Pricing of the new products was not disclosed at the companyís web-site, however, it is very likely that the new chips will cost $637, $284 and $134 in 1000-unit quantities for the Pentium M 780, Pentium M LV 778 and Celeron M 380 respectively.
Large computer makers are expected to adopt the new microprocessors shortly, as the demand towards mobile computers is growing these days.
