Intel Penryn 45nm performance preview
 

In true Asian web site tradition, HKEPC appear to have gotten hold of an early sample of Intel's forthcoming 'Penryn' CPUs, clocked at 2.33GHz and utilising a 1333MHz FSB. Naturally, with something like that in their hands, they put through numerous performance tests against an Intel Core 2 Duo E6550, using the same clock and FSB speeds. (source: Elitebastards)

~10% faster clock for clock, lower heat output, looks like a winner.

the gains of HL2 are off the chart and if you figure in that HL2 is most likely to be CPU limited it could make this a killer gaming CPU


Are there going to be any 1066 FSB parts of this 45nm chip as the huge multi is a turn-off?

as with C2D, games are still not CPU limited, once you turn up GFX detail, the GPU, again, takes the largest hit

Looking good. Was thinking about eventually upgrading to a Q6600 G0, but I think I'm gonna stick with my E6600 for now until the 45nm chips come out. It doesn't seem that it will be very long. Maybe End of 2007, beginning of 2008?

Yup^, they are scheduled for release end of the year

I wonder how Asian guys always get a hold of new chips from AMD & Intel before any country. I do have my theory;)

I started to hold off on my own G0 Q6600 for the same reason... but why wait? I still don't think a $266 Quad Penryn will be likely until next year... and it will offer a lower multiplier as well due to the higher FSB.

Why wait until next year for a equally cheap Penryn when ya will be wanting a new Nehalem by the end of 2008 anyway? ;) I am thinking I'll skip Penryn and jump on Nehalem. Nehalem will require a new motherboard, I'm quite sure... ;)
