Intel leaks info on Microsoft 64 bit XP, Server

ACCORDING to contacts deep in the lair of the Vole in Redmond, Microsoft is planning to release its long awaited 64-bit versions of Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 today.
The leak of an impending product, comes not from the Volish spinsters themselves, but from their long time friends Intel. A spokesman for Chipzilla said that its good friend the Vole would announce its new operating system at the WinHEC conference in Seattle today.

Chipzilla should know, because the operating system will be compatible with both Intel's 64-bit processors and, er, those from its rival AMD which it doesn't talk about.

Details of what the new OS will do are a little hazy. According to a technical document Vole penned a while back, Microsoft likes 64-bit because of its virtual memory support.

The 64-bit Windows will handle 16 terabytes worth of data instead of the 4GB for 32-bit Windows. This means that the system cache size jumps from 1GB to 1TB, and paging-file size increases from 16 TB to 512 TB.

Of course you will need a lot more RAM, but you were buying a spare few TBs anyway weren't you? µ
