Intel to launch Presler on 27th

THE VERY last core with NetBurst marchitecture will roll in 2005, leaving 2006 clean to baby-boy Yonah and heavy-weights Conroe, Woodcrest and Merom. Q1 2006 will see the launch of regular single and dual core Preslers. Difference between 65nm produced Pentium D and Extreme Edition versions are the 800 MHz FSB on the former and 1066 MHz FSB on the latter. Desktop Preslers will be known as Pentium D 920, 930, 940 and 950. All Preslers support iAMD64, Virtualization Technology and La Grande marchitecture, as a part of grand TCPA scheme. For La Grande to work, you need a TCPA chip on the mobo, so you're safe until you get a TCPA-chipped' mobo.

The Presler core should hold the candle until Conroe hits the big scene somewhere during back-to-school period.

Also bear in mind that the Pentium brand, which was stayed in minds of hundreds of millions computer users anywhere will hit the green pastures of marchitecture naming schemes. Starting with Yonah, Intel will introduce new brand names (Yonah - Core Solo and Duo), which are more in line of platformization of the PC.

Centrino is the flag carrier for mobile platform, incorrect roman 64 (VIIV spelled va'iv) is the media centre baby, while the office PC will get its platform soon enough. We hope Conroe won't be named Base. µ
