Default Intel to discontinue three 45nm CPUs, seven 65nm CPUs

Intel will stop taking orders for the Core 2 Quad Q9450, Core 2 Duo E8200, and Core 2 Duo E8190 (yeah, we didn't know about that one either) on January 9 next year. These 45nm processors haven't been around very long, but Intel has already supplanted them with faster offerings at the same price points. For example, the 2.83GHz Core 2 Quad Q9550 now sells for roughly the same price as the old Q9450, and you can buy a Core 2 Quad Q9400 with the same 2.66GHz clock speed and less cache for $270.

TG Daily says January 9 is also the deadline for orders of 65nm Core 2 Duo E6850, E6750, E6550, E6540, E4600 chips on the desktop, plus Core 2 Duo T7400 and Celeron-M 530 CPUs in Intel's mobile catalog.
