Default Intel to discontinue E6x50 series Dual Cores by Q1 2009

Intel plans to retire five Core 2, Conroe core 65nm based CPUs. This won't take place till Q1 2009 but the last orders will be placed in Q4 2008. It will discontinue E6850, E6750, E6550 and E6540 while E4600 will get discontinued by June.

The big chip manufacturer will replace these CPUs with E8x00 45nm Wolfdale based CPUs. It looks that a year after the introduction Intel will be ready to almost completely go for 45nm production and this can give you an idea how long will take AMD to get its 45nm act together.
