Intel Develops Wireless USB Chipset - UWB Solution

Intel Corp. has announced the availability of the Intel Wireless UWB Link 1480 MAC (media access controller) silicon and reference designs for ultra-wideband host solutions. These solutions, based on the certified Wireless Universal Serial Bus (WUSB) specification will allow independent hardware vendors to create WUSB devices.

Certified Wireless USB technology enables wireless access up to 480Mb/s within 9.9 feet (3 meters) or 110Mb/s within 33 feet (10 meters).

Hooray for this technology, many benefits:

* hooking up two computers with a very high speed wireless network in seconds;
* hooking up scanners, printers, digital cameras by simply plugging them into a power outlet up to ~10 meters away from the machine it will be used on and still get a high speed UWB connection

and the way they are talking about it, doesn't seem too far off either!
