| Intel Core i7 980X Overclocked to 6Ghz Using an Asus X58 Rampage Extreme II motherboard, this overclockers managed to push a new sample of Core i7 980X, which is clocked standard at 3.07ghz, over 6ghz, using LN2, of course. A few benchmarks and more details can be seen at Xtremesystems. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...73&postcount=1

| This is NOT a 980X. This is an early ES sample and has nothing to do with the final product (which will run at 3.33 ghz). |

| 5893MHz with HT, not bad. Better question is will there be cheaper models than the Extreme version, or if that will take one more year... |

| who needs them anyway, seriously? there's hardly a market for quad cores, few apps require more than a single core, most take benefit from dual cores, negligible group can use more than two cores. unless your main purpose is rendering or encoding; a 6-core CPU for a desktop PC is wasted if your intention is to run VM machines, then this single socket product is definitely a welcome addition
