Default Helio P20 brings 6GB LPDDR4X with 45 percent less power

Last week we told you about the Helio P20 and we were surprised that MediaTek has decided to share so many details about its first 16nm FinFET mainstream processor.

In addition to the eight core A53 at 2.3GHz and the new T880 MP2 GPUs there are at least two more interesting aspects of this mainstream SoC.

Samsung Chiwook Kim, Memory Product Planning & Application Engineering Team's Vice President jumped the gun with a LPDDR4X announcement. He mentioned that you can install 6GB of memory using Samsung's 20nm manufacturing process. This explains how much maximum memory will you see on the Helio P20 devices later this year.

Samsung will not manufacture this new memory, apparently SK Hynix will make the LPDDR4X.The LPDDR4X needs much less juice compared to LPDDR4. The LPDDR4 needs 1.1V while the new LPDDR4X needs 0.6V – 45 percent less. This is a huge saving as every mAh of battery counts.
