Heat from data center used to warm Swiss swimming pool

Located in Uitikon, Switzerland, the data center is expected to create 2,800 megawatts of wasted heat per year when operating at full capacity -- the same amount of energy needed to supply up to 80 houses with heating and warm water for one year. In order to repurpose some of this previously wasted energy, the town is looking to the needs of local civilians -- ensuring a comfortable temperature for swimming in the town pool.

Wow.... that's an really good idea. Watercool the datacenter, then use the heated water for other uses.

They don't watercool the datacenter, but they use the hot air in combination with a heat-exchanger to (pre-)heat the water. It's really not as difficult as it seems: in a regular datacenter they use airconditioning, and the hot air is just blown out in the open. It's a great idea to re-use that hot air somewhere.
