Gigabyte "Core i5" P55 Motherboard Prototype Pictured

There isn't a lot dramatically new to this motherboard or chipset, but we can see a few interesting things. First, the board sports only four DDR3 memory slots because the Core i5 processors will only have a dual channel memory controller. The LGA1136 processor socket is a bit smaller than the the LGA1366 for the Core i7 CPUs. There are what looks to be 10 SATA ports on the right hand side of the motherboard and three PCI Express x16 slots (likely a single full x16 and a two x8).

Overall, an exciting, but no overly dramatic, new motherboard offering from Gigabyte.

LGA1136?? Thought it was LGA1156?

They still aren't mentioning what the black memory-like slot is. Can see better photos here: Link

Best guess is some kind of SODIMM slot, but also heard it was a card slot for Intel's upcoming version of turbo memory, to replace Braidwood. Info here

oh, that's a slot for Intel's TurboCache/Memory thingie, indeed; but Intel already killed that off too; so that black slot might now make it to the final version

I've seen that black slot on some other brand Core i5 board, so I was wondering. Sounds like some needless feature to raise costs, hope they did axe it.

Was LGA1136 a typo or is that the socket count now?

no you are right, 1156 is what it will be, they made a typo:)
