Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H and ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 review

A while ago, Neoseeker took a look at the video performance offered by the new HD4290, the 890GX's integrated graphics processor. Needless to say it delivered great results, matching Intel's latest comparable product in gaming, while performing significantly better in general computing (our review). It's about time to take a look at what AMD's motherboard partners have designed around this new chipset, including the 890GX and the SB850, since they have now been on the market for many weeks.

Today we have a double-feature for you: the two boards featured in this article are the Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H and the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, which were both will be used to analyze the HD4290's performance. They are built on the ATX form factor, feature two PCI-Express x16 slots supporting CrossfireX at x8/x8 and have DDR3 memory slots with an AM3 socket. The most important innovation though is support for SATA III and USB 3.0. Since the overall performance of the new chipset was not evaluated in the previous article, this one is also going to pit them against the Gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P which was used in the standard test platform for many months. The previous chipset with integrated graphics is also going to be included, in the form of the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO.
