Fan Noise Solutions

Another important point is that the noise figure you see quoted is measured with the fan suspended in the middle of an empty chamber; the noise you actually hear is with the fan fastened to a metal box, a grille of sorts on one end, and various cables and components in the flow path.

This always increases the fan's noise level, sometimes more than doubling the perceived effect.

I don't use any fan grills at all, waste of airflow.

Dust sticking on the blades lowers air flow than not having the grill;)

air flow isn't realy important, it's only a PIII-733, as long as it's silent I don't care too much about some dust :D

Rutar 16th April 2006 17:18

with a grill, the dust doesn't just stick on the fan blades, it also sticks on the grills =P

grills+dust filter of course
