| Facebook pulls plug on third party tools Zuckerberg regrets – but… From tomorrow Facebook will stop accepting third party tools sharing posts automatically to FB Profiles. It means, for example, that if you have a business tag on your main web page or blog that automatically redirects to your Facebook page, it will go nowhere unless you get your web spanners out. Major platform Wordpress criticised Facebook for the move. It said: “We believe that eliminating cross posting from Wordpress is another step back in Facebook's support of the open web, especially since it affects people's ability to interact with their network.” That is, it continued, unless users are willing to pay for Facebook visibility. “We know that this might cause a disruption in the way you and your Facebook followers interact, and if you'd like to share your concerns with Facebook, we urge you to head to their help community to speak out.” A way round it, said Wordpress, is to convert a Facebook profile to a page. That might be “something to consider if your website focuses on your business, organisation or brand.” What has Facebook itself got to say about the move? The answer is not very much, beyond explaining that profiles are personal Facebook accounts while Pages are public profiles. So a lot of people are going to be very busy very soon as a result of Facebook's unilateral decision. https://fudzilla.com/news/46850-face...rd-party-tools |
