ATI supports PS 2.x which is identical to PS 3 "looks-wise" at this time.

yep, the main difference lies in the way the images can be generated by the GPU, some actions can be done faster with PS3 as they can done more passes in one go. the output will remain the same. Only thing which can make a difference is the higher 32bit precision in future games.
