Before the 1 click and done programs I used IFOedit and such.
During a whole time I used DVD2one when it came out.
Kickass program, very fast compared to IFO, 12min to compress movie and have a good quality. Ok IFO gives better quality but 4 hours against 12 mins is a huge difference. I'm still using it even if dvdshrink has more options, well I use both, depending on what need to be ripped/compressed. IC is also a very good prog but I think it's not really user friendly. It took me some time to find the correct settings.

Best freeware combo : Dvddecryptor and dvdshrink

Also very important is which prog you use to burn.
Nero gave some errors in the past. Never had those errors but some had so I mention it.

Why do you need to compress a movie while making a DVD to DVD-+R copy?

Yeah, never used it tho, dunno if it's any good.

@RB : there is DVD9 and DVD5 : DVD 9 are 2 layers dvd and are too big. fe : DVD9 : 7.5G and DVD-R = 4.3G
So if you want to keep all audio tracks and extras and menu's then you need to compress the video or only the extras.
Most obvious is first to remove the audio tracks you don't need.
and subs even if they don't take much space. The extra's you could keep, but not really needed so throw them away.
You probably have a movie that is still too big but the compression would be less high and quality better.

trash all subtitels except french & dutch

minor recompressing
fits on a dvd-r nicely

The only thing that sux is that you can't find every movie in the video rental store.
I have a quiet large collection and am looking for some movies that are really difficult to find in DVD format
