Dry Ice Cooling Takes €150 AMD Phenom II X3 720 (2.8Ghz) to 4.7Ghz Stable! 2 Attachment(s) |
3.2GHz Core i7 can still beat a 4.2GHz Phenom II... kinda kills my enthusiasm for those AMD overclocks. http://arstechnica.com/hardware/revi...ii-scaling.ars |
compare it to same price platform to get a conclusion which is interesting;) Core i7 is fastest system out there. we already knew that:) |
AMD $488 Phenom II 940 $229 ASUS M4A79 Deluxe $199 Patriot Viper 6GB DDR2-1066 $60 Intel $575 Core i7 920 $290 GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R $185 Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3-1333 $100 ~$90 difference for better performance? Cost difference would drop by half if I used an AM3 motherboard. Even a 2.67GHz Core i7 outperformed a 4.2GHz Phenom in a few tests. $90 seems like a small difference given extra performance, DDR3, and the choice of a new socket with future support. (Versus AM2+ which won't be seeing any new updates after Phenom II speedbumps.) |
why do you take a motherboard which costs $199 ? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136056 $150 and as capable. No need for 6gb memory... 4gb is -$20; so that's $70+$90 is $150 difference. :) backward socket compatibility has been proven to work. If I have too much money the Core i7 is first choice , if money is an issue though I would much rather go for S775 45nm Quad Core system |
Was looking at features, but yours is better. AMD $419 Phenom II 940 $229 DFI LP JR 790GX-M2RS $150 4GB DDR2-1066 $40 Intel $520 Core i7 920 $290 GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R $170 4GB DDR3-1333 $60 With your suggestions it is a $101 difference, not $150. :) If for example the user was (already) buying an Intel X25-M SSD, buying it with a Core i7 920 gives them an additional $60 discount... so comes down to what the user is building I guess. Saw this, guess I will post it here. They are almost giving it away  Phenom II 940 bundle with Foxconn A79A-S MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.160276 -$110 Combo Discount -$34 Rebate $310 AMIR. |
expensive motherboard to begin with :) but interesting upgrade path for A64/P4 users; S775 users should upgrade to midrange Core 2 Duo/Quad if their motherboard supports it |
