Core i7 is fastest system out there. we already knew that

~$90 difference for better performance? Cost difference would drop by half if I used an AM3 motherboard.

Even a 2.67GHz Core i7 outperformed a 4.2GHz Phenom in a few tests. $90 seems like a small difference given extra performance, DDR3, and the choice of a new socket with future support. (Versus AM2+ which won't be seeing any new updates after Phenom II speedbumps.)

$150 and as capable. No need for 6gb memory... 4gb is -$20; so that's $70+$90 is $150 difference.

backward socket compatibility has been proven to work.

If I have too much money the Core i7 is first choice , if money is an issue though I would much rather go for S775 45nm Quad Core system

Was looking at features, but yours is better.

Core i7 920 $290

4GB DDR3-1333 $60

With your suggestions it is a $101 difference, not $150.

If for example the user was (already) buying an Intel X25-M SSD, buying it with a Core i7 920 gives them an additional $60 discount... so comes down to what the user is building I guess.

Only with Phenom II, would not expect future designs to work with AM2+. AM3 chips have 200MHz higher Uncore clocks than AM2+ chips, not sure if they retain this when placed into an AM2+ socket?

but interesting upgrade path for A64/P4 users; S775 users should upgrade to midrange Core 2 Duo/Quad if their motherboard supports it
