Icon17 Dremel Introduces 'Stylus' For Precision Modding

PC modders and other craftsmen gained a new toy this week -- the Dremel Stylus, a miniature version of the popular rotary tool designed for fine detail work.

Although the company's web site indicates that the Stylus was announced in February, a spokeswoman for the Robert Bosch Tool Corp. -- the makers of the Dremel -- said that the tool was released this week, and is currently available on Amazon.com and other retailers.

The $69.99 Stylus is designed to be held like a pencil, according to the company. The stylus ships with 25 bits and other accessories, which may be interchanged with other Dremel products, providing the collet is the correct size, the spokeswoman said.

"The Dremel Stylus is a tool that will allow the creativity to flow from the user, right into the project itself," added Andrea Ash, Dremel's director of marketing communications, in a statement. "We know how important it is to have a tool in the house that makes crafts, hobbies and every day projects approachable and fun – and the new Stylus was created to fit your hand and your lifestyle."

Inside, the Stylus houses a 7.2-volt lithium-ion rechargeable battery, similar to that used inside of a cellular phone. The company didn't indicate the size of the Li-ion cell, but said that it would hold a charge for two years.

In addition to the standard power switch, the Dremel Stylus also includes a rotary dial to control the speed of the bit, which can spin from 5,000 to 25,000 RPM.
