| Do AMD 64 X2s really cost more? The chip will initially be available in four versions, which don't come cheap. The prices range from $537 for the 4200+ version to $1001 for the 4800+ version--and those prices are for bulk purchases of 1000 chips or more. "We've decided to go first at the high end of the market," said Henri Richard, executive vice president of worldwide sales and marketing, at a news conference in Taipei. Asked if AMD's chips might be too expensive for system integrators, especially compared to the slightly lower prices of dual-core Intel chips, Richard said Intel's chips require a new chip set and additional cooling. As a result, the overall price difference between the companies won't be as great as the difference in chip pricing, he said. http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,121074,00.asp

| I think this a poor argument, which misses the point entirely. If you don't have $600 or 800 you are never going to go dual core, anyway. Dual Cores are typical, greedy capitalist-like overpriced products. They shouldn't cost more than 10-18% of similarly frequency single core. The rest is just super profits.:excellent Isn't that right Mr. Burns? And why should you pay $700 for a dual core, when you can get an AMD 4000+ for less than $500? |

| The same logic/reason people pay >$600 for a video card and two for >$1,200 in SLI. It is for those who have; the have not will read only.
