Default Dell triples Windows XP downgrade tax to $150

Windows XP is not going away anytime soon, but it will get more expensive. Dell has been supporting a Windows XP downgrade option since the introduction of Windows Vista and extended this option twice beyond a previously given deadline for the Latitude, Optiplex, Vostro and Precision series as well as certain Inspiron and XPS systems. Consumers who choose this option will now have to pay up to $150 to get XP on their new computers.

It's all true I've seen Dell charging $50 to "downgrade" Vista, they've done that for a long time on select models. Only a few models come with the free XP downgrade option, most systems listed do not have any downgrade option. Some of the XPS models require $100 to downgrade from Vista Home Premium to XP Media Center edition, and $50 to downgrade to XP Pro.

they've corrected the article; it's still $50 on select models;
but do check out the downgrade for business models, $0

And check out the $150 downgrade cost for Home user models: http://www.dell.com/content/products...=19&l=en&s=dhs

Doesn't matter if it is Home Basic or Home Premium, still costs $150 to downgrade to XP Home.

XP is only included on certain (More expensive) Vostro models, others don't offer it, or charge $99 to switch to XP.

Doesn't matter if they don't surchage across their entire product catalog, is still wrong and will catch those people that don't know anything about computers or OS pricing.
