The Console PC Project

Nowadays, there is a considerable degree of “convergence” between standard A/V home components (ie television, dvd player, dvr) and pc components. Mostly in the form of rectangular small form computer cases shaped like an A/V component. The downsides to these cases are large—small, cramped, hot systems requiring low voltage cpus and gpus, and few hard drives.

I sort of turned this notion on its head. Being a hardware enthusiast, I would want a full sized case that could support a full sized overclocked system with oversized heatsinks (or even watercooling), SLI/Crossfire, 4 5.25 bays, and copious hard drive storage.

Also being a hardware nut, I was looking to design a fully functional case and not a one-off ornamental piece, and so required things like tool free design, intelligent cable management, removeable motherboard tray—all the things you would look for in a hi end computer case. Installing (and swapping) components into this case must be convenient and (this is what makes a hardware nut a nut) pleasurable.
