COMPUTEX Taipei, or Taipei International Information Technology Show is held in Taipei annually since 1981. It is the largest computer expo on the asian continent, with a constant growth every year. We took a quick look at behind the scenes to see a lot of construction work going on, even on the eve before the show.

Over the course of the meetings, we’ve seen quite a few things. Obviously Intel’s recently announced P35 Bearlake chipset was a feature, but more interestingly we got to see early revisions of boards based on the replacement for the ageing 975X chipset: the X38 Express chipset, which is set for release sometime in September. In addition, we also had a first look at AMD’s first enthusiast chipset: RD790, which comes complete with support for the company’s upcoming Phenom processors. We arrived a day early for Computex 2007 and were able to roam the hallways and meet with a few suppliers before the actual show starts today. This year's show will not have the same pizzazz as last year when the talk of the town was Core 2 Duo and AMD's purchase of ATI. Of course, that does not mean there will be a lack of new products, ideas, or hopes and dreams by the various manufacturers of PC centric products.

Hmm, so X38 will still support DDR2, interesting... For being a hotter running chipset, that is not nearly as much chipset/VRM cooling on the X38 DQ6 as with the P35 DQ6. If the latter is ~$260 I'm going to hate to see the price on the X38 version...
