Default Buffalo readies new, 500GB auto-encrypting portable HDD

Buffalo has this week announced the addition of a new model to its HDS-PHU2 series of shock-resistant portable hard drives. Codenamed HDS-PH500U2, the upcoming drive has 500GB worth of storage space, it measures 127 (W) x 84 (H) x 23 (D) mm and weights 225 grams, has a USB 2.0 interface and features a rugged enclosure that will keep it safe in case it falls on a hard surface.

The portable drive also provides protection for user date thanks to its AES 128bit automatic encryption function. The HDS-PH500U2 is expected to debut in Japan at the middle of this month at about $243.
