Exclusive: ATI's Radeon X1900XT Game benchmark numbers

Even though the official launch of Radeon X1900 is not until next week, one of our writers in Taiwan was able to over-night a card back to our labs. There are two standalone versions of Radeon X1900; the Radeon X1900XT and the Radeon X1900XTX. The X1900XTX is essentially the same card as the X1900XT, but with slightly higher clock speeds. The cards were both benchmarked on an Opteron 165 workstation with 2GB of PC-3200. We used the latest NVIDIA driver, but the Catalyst 6.1 driver did not detect the Radeon X1900. Thus, we used a beta driver from late December. Battlefield 2, FEAR and Call of Duty 2 were tested.

The 256Mb 7800GTX is clocked lower than the 512Mb version, so it's already slower. The resolutions tested... well.. it's all fine and dandy that they test 1920x1200 and 1600x1200 but who the hell runs those resolutions? 2% of the people out there?

the numbers returned by BOTH cards don't leave a good impression; 37FPS is not playable; so why bother? 1024x768 and 1280x1024 are still the most widely used resolutions for gaming, together with nice AA and AF.

Guess we will have to wait until Tuesday next week to get some more meaningfull numbers. Expect these cards to cost you an arm and a leg.

I want to join the 1920x1200 camp too but there is no decent gaming 24" around yet.

1600x1050 could be intresting, because of the 19", 20" widescreens which are very attractive from the price

I am very dissapointed, I expected more oomph from the 1900XT.

it's NOT the XTX!

I tried to play COD2 yesterday, well I think we're gonna have to wait three more generations before being able to play this game on 1920*1200 resolution with any degree of aa and af...
